A little bit about me

I grew up within the Connecticut River watershed, where summers meant finding fresh spring streams with ice cold water that came from deep within the ground. This water shocked my body to its core, waking up my senses. My sister and I dug for natural clay along the river banks. Forming pinch pots with our little fingers, we let them dry out in the sun on hot summer days, only to have them crumble to pieces at our feet. Yet we would begin the process again and again. Rivers are a source of learning and comfort, speaking from my childhood experiences. I find myself returning to my childhood love of clay and water in my adulthood.

Artist Statement

Water speaks to my soul, evoking movement, change, and the flow of life. Throwing clay on the pottery wheel, water helps glide my hands over the mound of clay, shaping a tall cylinder or belly of a bowl. I like to capture the fluid nature of water in my work, by applying thick slips by brush or hand. My work is functional, and right now I am obsessed with making bowls that stack perfectly. I hope to make pots that are practical and serve a purpose. With each pot I make, I come closer to finding my voice in ceramics, through functional forms, slippy surface designs, and repetition.
